Why am I running as an independent for a congressional seat in the new 19th district in New York State? Because like you, I am displeased by professional politicians making ineffective legislation which does not reflect the everyday man and woman. We need a voice in congress that is outside the established Washington bubble. I want to be that voice.

To the Polls..6th November 2018
Tomorrow the electorate votes across our great nation..tomorrow we get to see the effect of the media on the public..tomorrow Republicans and Democrats will be rewarded for their enormous financial investment in this campaign cycle. And the result..no one knows just yet..But will it actually matter? I think that if the electorate does not shift away from the dysfunction of the two party system..it will be more of the same. I have been running for the House of Representatives since 2012 and I have not seen any positive results. I am still seeking your vote; i am still running on the same three principles:government must have a conscience ,the two party system does not represent the people and money should not buy representation..let your vote make a difference to you..Write-in THOM JENKINS FOR THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES..I would like to thank the thousands of people who have signed my petitions over these last four election cycles. In this day and age principles matter more than ever before..but no matter what..Please VOTE!

Let your vote make a difference for you ..continued
we are faced with the same issues as we have been facing for years; the only thing is that they are getting worst not better. Congress is not doing its job..working for the American people. Every election cycle one party points its finger at the other. There is the problem. Republicans and Democrats are not representing the people..more and more money is being spend on election and re-election campaigns with no positive outcomes ..our government has lost its moral conscience. Citizens are worried about the lack of gun control which by the way does not mean taking guns out of the hands of its citizens with the exception of assault weapons...ask any sportsman or woman if they need an assault weapon to enjoy hunting in our great outdoors and I am willing to bet that they are in favor of certain safety s within gun control legislation. The land of immigrants is becoming a land of intolerance according to the media..there are people out there who do not believe in climate change,,the polar ice caps are melting at a rate of two Olympic size swimming pools per second according those who work in this area. Do you want your children and future generations to come to have fresh water clean air and an actual planet to live on? of course, you do. pay attention because everything matters! It is time to elect a true independent..I am that person. I believe that it is time to shift away from republicans and democrats and put some sense into government policy and law. On November 6th WRITE IN THOM JENKINS AS YOUR CHOICE FOR THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND LET YOUR VOTE MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR YOU!

Choose Me..Let Your Vote Make a Difference For YOU!
this election cycle i went out and personally sought your signature to make the ballot. I managed to get 3046..that total brought me to over ten thousand signatures for the four election cycles in which I have participated .. not enough to make the ballot according to the new york state election law..I did not have a group to help.. i did it on my own. I am not lazy but i do have to work construction when i have the work. you know what that is like because i am just like you..I am running for congress because i am just like you..and shouldn't you have a candidate who is just like YOU! This election cycle should be important to you as every other one..unfortunately the democratic candidate and the republican candidate did not get a clear grasp of the issues that should be important. The Affordable Care Act, that was passed into law during the Obama Administration,.. has been tossed around like a hot potato..repeal replace,,no one seems to know what to do with it. I have followed the rhetoric of democrats and republicans..they do not seem to be able to come to a positive conclusion..idealistically universal healthcare for all seems wonderful but pragmatically not realistic to the taxpayer. H.R.676 seems like another great concept but again unrealistic in terms of our taxes and more importantly do you actually think that insurance companies would allow the largest and most important insurance to just slip through their hands;absolutely not, especially with all the financial influence that they have in the House and in the Senate . what is being overlooked? The simple fact that congress has the right under the constitution to regulate interstate commerce and what do you think the insurance companies are one large commercial entity. The key to excellent health insurance which includes: no denial of coverage for pre existing conditions..children on your policy until the age of twenty six just after they have paid off their tremendous college loans provided that there have been good jobs to pay off their six figure student loans or even partially, and probably the one that no one pays much attention too no cap limits... is of course, MANAGEABLE AND AFFORDABLE PREMIUMS..so if you elect me i will work towards that end and work towards having jobs available to you and your children and seeing that either your children's tuition has lower interest rates or that college tuition's are designed not to break your bank account.I have more to say before the election.but on November 6th remember to WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS as your choice for the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

The democratic party and the republican party do not represent the people..that is to say not all of them
I am of the opinion that the democratic party and the republican party are not representative of all the people. In fact, I believe that they are two gigantic corporations fighting for power. In every town ,in every city, every county, and every state you find these two parties; and in every election they try to sell their platform through television advertising and through every form of media that they can pay for..the candidates for these parties, are sincere in their beliefs but nevertheless perform a function for the political party that they represent. This function is not necessarily for the common good. I truly believe that the electorate needs to have a shift of consciousness..It is time to look in the mirror and reflect on why you are or are not a member of a political party. Each election candidates come from both parties telling you what you need and how they are going to do it..most of those positions have been brought before the house or the senate for years. It is very difficult to create change in a dysfunctional government where lobbying creates a lot of roadblocks..I cannot single handily promise anything but I can promise to work hard on issues that concern us all. It is time to look in a different direction . I believe that I can initiate that change. This blog,or my campaign log, goes all the way back to 2012, the first time I became a candidate and sought the ballot. My views are fairly consistent...but will be up dated for the campaign of 2018. I love to work hard and love finding solutions to complex problems. I will keep you posted.
Just how precious is your right to vote...continud
George Bernard Shaw once wrote.."Democracy is a device that insures we shall be governed.no better than we deserve." Your right to vote is paramount in that result. So why aren 't you voting? There is an side here..in the past, I have written about the fact that the election law in New York state are bias to democrats and republicans.I do not think it fair the the number of signatures for those two parties are so much less than those needed by an independent 1250/3500..I can complain, ,but it is the law nevertheless. I would like to see it changed to a fair playing field..not only the amount of signatures and also the period in which these signatures are obtained, Furthermore, I would advocate for a national election law that is fair for everyone; included in that law would be an insurance that there would adequate ballot boxes at every polling place, a policy that provided a way in which any member of the electorate would have the right to vote I do not like any of the candidates. The two party system has dominated the electorate..they do not represent the people IF they did fifty five percent of the electorate would not call themselves independent. In the 19th Congressional District of New York there are a vast number of independents well over 110,000; I sincerely hope you will support this independent to make the ballot for this election cycle. Good luck to all the candidates in the democratic primary the 26th of June and good luck to any of the other candidates who are seeking the ballot. YOUR VOTE MEANS SOMETHING; YOU SHOULD EXERCISE IT!

once again iam seeking the ballot to represent the 19th congressional district
this is the fourth time i am seeking the ballot as an independent. I am very happy to say that there are so many candidates running this election cycle. let me begin this campaign by asking you a question..HOW PRECIOUS IS YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE? remember last time..people were protesting in the streets because Mrs. Clinton lost the election..she won the popular vote but lost the election in the electoral college..a check put in the Constitution by the founding fathers. Let us get down to it..how many of you actually voted..there is the answer..not a very high percentage compared to other democracies like India where eighty percent of the people vote. You know the saying if you do not vote you do not have the right to complain..In Australia, if you do not vote ..you get a fine..it is not much but a penalty nevertheless..what is going on here..the Supreme Court in a 5 to 4 decision sided with the state of Ohio that if a voter failed to vote in awhile that their name could be temporarily removed from the voter registration list..I have simplified the outcome to make a point.. how precious is your right to vote? You must admit that should be ample reason to vote..use it or lose it. Of course , we ALL REALIZE THAT THIS IS AN EFFORT TO SUPPRESS THE VOTE NOT JUST OF MINORITIES BUT YOU AND I..Of course there have been other methods used to limit the ability to vote. Let us all think twice and vote; because somewhere down the line you might actually lose it. WE NEED TO CHALLENGE VOTER SUPPRESSION AND VOTE! I will discuss this further.

Enough! The Media is the root of the problem!
I wonder if people listen with both ears..I followed the presidential election with as much interest as I could. I listened with no bias to any of the candidates. I expected fair coverage..to a degree. I ..am not surprised by the out come of the election ..the media screwed everyone..Bernie Sanders did not get fair coverage..Trump has had his words literally altered..what do i mean by that. Example one..after the san bernadino terrorist shootings Trump came out.. and said..folks we have problem perhaps we should ban muslims from coming into this country until we figure it out..Wolf Blitzer s spin on that was Trump wants to ban muslims from into this country without the caveat. Second example..Donald Trump said that there could be riots in Cleveland if I do not get the nomination on the first ballot..again..wolf Blitzers spin was that there would be riots..and he kept repeating it. .truly unbelievable..These are just tiny examples of a shift in language that could be misinterpreted..Trump has said some outrageous things on the campaign trail..now he is president elect. The protesters are doing their thing..but perhaps they should have been out on the streets when bernie sanders was screwed by the Democratic National committee..just maybe the protesters should be voicing what they would like to see from the trump presidentcy..to unify the country. The media has gone to far in its reporting on personal attacks..the media should have put a lid on it. The campaign was more about personal attacks..than the issues. and when it came right down to it The new york Post cover said it all ..A woman holding her nose and saying VOTE for the candidate you dislike the least! Half the people felt one way the other half another..now we have to deal with it together. The media is the root the problem..I guess people will pay attention a little more..maybe even presidents will bite their tongues before they talk!

The Aftermath
After each election, there is always a reaction..Mr. Trump has not done anything yet..and for anything that he will do after his inauguration he needs congressional approval. Our form of government has checks and balances..As for all the rhetoric of the campaign..those are concepts and only concepts. Fact: Obama has deported more undocumented immigrants than any other president in American history. Look to the media for misleading the public with their spin . Become more informed..listen. Hopefully, Mr. Trump will be a president for all the people.

The Election Results
Congratulations to Donald Trump for his stunning presidential victory. The democrats thought they had the election wrapped up ..that was a big mistake. I was not successful in my bid for the 19th Congressional district of New York..the fact is that I tried ;my views on the issues have been consistent through the last three election cycles.Still, independents do not have a voice that means that a large portion of the electorate are citizens without a voice. Independents are needed in government to end two party gridlock and the bad habits of political parties that linger in Washington, D.C..New election laws to make access to the ballot fair for everyone..big money donors out of politics..elected officals are public servants and they have to begin to do their jobs..Will donald trump shake up washington..? Will he make good on his promises? We do not know the answers; we only hope that there are positive results for everyone. The one outstanding issue remains division..that division is no different than the outcomes of previous elections..the media a spin that should be filtered. what I mean by that is..try to be accurate in your reporting. The end result is Mr. Trump is the president elect..the House and the Senate are both Republican dominated..now what we have to do is wait and see. Statements made by the winner with regard to health care ,trade, immigration, corruption in government race relations, improvements for our inner cities, dealing with isis, cyber security et cetera are not overnight concepts that are easy to solve..we must unite behind Mr. Trump and see..but remember it is really no different than any other election..a lot of bad things were said about each candidate..that is put aside ..now the job of uniting the country begins..One last thing..congratulations to John Faso on winning the 19th congressional district..This district is gerrymandered Republican until 2020.Carpetbaggers do not belong here. two election cycles two carpetbaggers..the democrats lost each time. There should be longer residency requirements for a person who is seeking a congressional seat.

I am the Candidate that you have all been waiting for..now go out and vote for me!.
As I mentioned previously..I want to look sharp going to my polling place..a carhart vest to keep me warm and remind me that I am a carpenter..a starched pink shirt with a Brooks Brothers tie an Armani sports jacket and back to the carharts for my pants.. I am the candidate that you have all been looking for but hard to find. I am not perfect and I have learned from my mistakes. The measure of a person after a fall is what he does with that new found opportunity..The only campaign promise I can make is that I will work tirelessly for the citizens of the 19th congressional district..If you have views that are simi;ar to mine; you must vote for me. After all, a vote for me is a vote for YOU!

In conclusion..Let your Vote make a difference,to you!
Let your Vote make a difference, to you! Vote your conscience !
The Eve of the 2016 elections
It is the eve of the 2016 elections; I am hoping to look really sharp when I go to my polling place to vote. for myself for the House of Representatives. This is my third election cycle..I am a write-in once more. Just like everyone one else ,I will have to go down the column marked ..House of Representatives and write my name THOM JENKINS in the space provided for a write-in candidate. The puzzle for me is the fact that a ballot recognizes a write-in candidate but the media does not. Nevertheless,I am a very proud American who wants to represent the citizens of the 19th congressional district of New York. I believe that the little media attention that I have had during this cycle may limit my reach, but I do think that Independents who have paid attention will step up and vote for me. This district has more than enough independents for me to carry the day. I have stated my positions on the issues ; I did a lot of work trying to make the ballot, falling short because the election laws are not fair..I feel that independents are being denied their right to representation by those very laws. Each cycle I went out and got more signatures than either a republican or democrat had to get..1250..How fair is it that an independent has to get 3500? The very breakdown of the electorate demands fairer election laws; nationally 55% of the electorate is independent so just how many democrats and republicans are there? I just laugh at the rationale that I am trying to split the vote..I think those people should get their facts straight. In conclusion..I am standing up for what I believe in..and I am very proud of it! So let us see what happens tomorrow..good luck to everyone..

Same sex Marriage and gender issues
It is the 21st century..every one has a gay relative somewhere.Who cares? And if someone does; it is none of their business. Society had gotten way out of control with people's sexual choice or orientation..once again private. Society has lightened up..Thank God!
Women..have a right to privacy
Roe v. Wade should never be overturned by the Supreme court! You can be pro choice and be pro life but you cannot be pro life and be pro choice..A woman's right to privacy is her business and no one elses. It has been very unfortunate that it even mentioned in the 21st century as a political issue.

Let's Turn Big Banks and Wall Street Around
Bernie Sanders said let"s break up the big banks and let"s tax Wall Street to help pay for education. Well, most of us seemed very enthusiastic about those concepts; unfortunately ,with the present make up in both houses of Congress that is impossible because those guys are bought and paid for ..The only way that those ideas could become reality is by voting for independents to become the occupants of the House and the Senate period. In the mean time, the alternative is to make a deal with the big banks and wall street..After all the government helped them out..Big time..Now it is there time to return the favor. The people who caused the problems of 2008 never went into the can they went to St. Bart's..Millions of Americans lost alot ..a fraction in the eyes of the greedy pigs..who got away with the crime of the century. The voter has influence. USE YOUR VOTE AS A WEAPON AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT!
Trade Agreements ..and then there is Iran
American corporations out source jobs taking jobs from millions of Americans.. Trade agreements have also hurt the American worker from NAFTA to the TPP..Let us reevaluate these agreements. Let us also think about our agreement on terminating sanctions against Iran and giving them back tons of money. Why didn't the present administration make a better arrangement? Look at how Iran has behaved since ..Unbelievable! Any deal, agreement or otherwise has to benefit the United States and the American worker. It has been a sell out. I do not like that do you? Let your vote make a difference to YOU..On November 8th, write in THOM JENKINS for the House of Representatives.
The Second Amendment
I support the right to bear arms. It is the right of most of our citizens..There must be a line drawn. WE need a federal law to keep firearms from getting into the hands of individuals on the terror watch list..do you remember that after the killings in California a senator from New York made that very proposal ..ironically it did not pass.Still unbelievable to me. We need a federal gun safety laws. The N.R.A. threatened members of Congress that if any member supported such legislation that their career in politics would be in serious jeopardy. If you respect the second amendment, then you should be the first to support gun safety legislation. Most gun owners respect their weapons and would not harm anyone..they love the outdoors...they love to hunt..they love going to their gun clubs..That is all well and good..but what about gun violence?

How do we make a change?
The answer is quite simple on November 8th 2016 you write-in Thom Jenkins for congress specifically go down the Column for the House of Representatives and write in my name in the space provided...LET YOUR VOTE MAKE A DIFFERENCE,TO YOU!
Pollution our water and another pipeline that would cause too many problems
It is just unimaginable that we have community s that in the 21st century have polluted water..It is just unimaginable that the pilgrim pipeline is being considered when there have been so many accidents nation wide. The very fact that the Hazardous Materials Pipeline Safety Administration only has a handful of inspectors to survey over 2.6 million miles of pipeline is an instant red flag..Unfortunately, Congress has had a lot to do with this distress..politicians in the pockets of one corporation or another..paid to neglect safety..I promise to get to the core of the problem and be a beckon to correct those ills.
Our Farms
Our farms are to be cherished . The hard working farmer has a lot to deal with..Farmers need a break. In order to encourage farmers to grow organic which i believe in; I would propose increased subsidies for those who grew organic or were shifting in that direction ..those subsidies would be in proportion to the farmers capability of growing organic. Surely that would encourage the non organic farmer to think twice when it comes to getting money from the federal government..I think eventually if not immediately he or she would concur..I firmly believe that we can have a shift of consciousness if we only just do it! I believe in fairness..big agriculture can be a big help here..Use your common sense!
Our Taxes
The people pay too much..and the rich even though they are people too..pay too little..Unlike the opinion that Supreme Court concluded with the Citizens United decision where corporations were declared people..corporations get away with murder when it comes to paying their fair share. Not only do they not pay taxes in this country..they outsource our jobs..So corporations screw us both ways. And who is left to pay the burden, You and I. So..we must end corporate loop holes, give fair tax breaks to small businesses who provide a living wage and health benefits to their employees..tax credits to families whose children attend a four year university and an overall federal income tax to people whose income is less than 50,000 dollars of 2% of their adjusted gross income. Tax Credits to farmers who grow organic food and contribute to various food banks..and higher taxes on big agriculture until they shift to non-gmo and organic food..If all the farmers are growing organic..we all benefit lower taxes for big agriculture and healthy consumers.Although our current tax system is still based on income brackets,we should focus on helping the middle class more ..definitely ending a penalty for not having health insurance that never should have been included in the Affordable Care Act; I am sure that was looked at as a leverage point by the insurance industry to insure their pockets would get richer. I have always believed that wealthy individuals should pay a must larger tax..they can certainly afford it!
The Environment
Without a healthy environment , we are doomed as a species. WE have been doing a terrible job overall in preserving the air we breathe the water we drink and the very land we we live on..Everyone deserves clean healthy water..we deserve clean air and certainly we deserve a well preserved planet to live. We have been neglectful. The public with their own vigilance depends on state and federal agencies to protect the environment . There have been far too many environmental accidents..far too little accountability for those who caused the damage and far to little quick responses to those accidents even bordering on criminal neglect. It is the job of the federal government to make sure the public is safe..There must be strong regulations .There must be enough personnel in place to investigate and remedy any problem..Money should never be an issue!
Campaign Reform
Besides keeping big money out of politics..we might want to consider an election law that is fair to all congressional candidates.Their should be put in place a federal law giving all federal candidates the same opportunity to make the ballot. In New York state an independent has to get 3500 signatures to make the ballot whereas democrats and republicans only need 1250. The media must somehow be held accountable..the media gives very uneven spin on political candidates and basically ignores independents..it is really outrageous; and one wonders why independents do not appear on the ballot. The usual excuses are..the candidate did not poll at a certain percentage..the candidate is not getting any traction..I love that one because how do you get traction if you do not get media attention. Maybe the fairest way is to have a summary of the candidates position on the issues of that cycle on a website where the electorate can compare the candidates..it is also not beyond reason to have candidates positions on the issues at the various polling places that s fair..money should not buy representation , advertising television internet coverage UNLESS it is equal and paid for by the public not big donors..There are lots of ways to be fair..The F.C.C. could turn election advertising into Public service announcements..WHY NOT? CANDIDATES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PUBLIC SERVANTS THAT MEANS SERVING THE PUBLIC THEY REPRESENT NOT THE POLITICAL PARTY. that they are obliged to raise money for: no wonder Washington is such a mess!

the issues continued..foreign policy
The United States is no longer the moral compass of the world. We have tried to install our form of democracy in countries that have not responded well to it..namely Iraq and Afghanistan. We turned our backs on Syria, the Ukraine and the Sudan where tens of thousand s have been harmed or murdered. We may have even on some level created Isis thru our own neglect. We seem to have a shortsighted vision of an action without a clear vision of the outcome. This must change. The two party gird lock in Washington has not been helpful. We need to counter the violence of the Middle east and North Africa with something different. We must act from the moral high ground of being a friend to those in harms way and a forceful friend when needed. If we can uplift the human spirit with economic aide and see results we continue our involvement..if not we do not period. If the people are uplifted by their own governments with our help .we will regain our status among the world of nations.
we must regain our respect. Unfortunately, Isis is a serious problem that must be dealt..Our relations with N.A.T.O must be more effective, especially in the Ukraine.
we must regain our respect. Unfortunately, Isis is a serious problem that must be dealt..Our relations with N.A.T.O must be more effective, especially in the Ukraine.
the issues continued
Education..I firmly believe that we need to revamp our educational system. The united states is leagues behind most of the world in science and mathematics ; the reason will surprise you we are not teaching our own language like we should. Simply things like grammar, punctuation sentence structure are not being emphasized enough anymore ..we are creating a class of people who do not know how to problem solve..a key element that a student should learn in elementary school. Congress needs to look seriously at the failures in the American educational system...and figure out a solution!
Well Mr. Jenkins where you stand of the issues in 2016?
The issues of 2016 are the same issues of at least the last two previous election cycles. I think that I will start with an issue that concerns us all...Health Insurance..The Affordable Care Act that has been with us for a while has been a step in the right direction..it has three very good points: no preexisting condition denial, children on your health care policy until they reach the age of twenty six and lastly no cap..that in itself is major. The difficult to swallow points are high premiums and high out of pocket expenses. You would think that the insurance companies would want us to have reasonable health care premiums to stay healthy in order to pay all the other insurances we need in our lives. I Pay almost twenty percent of my income for various insurances that I need to keep my life going and I have medicare and a supplement that keep going up and up. Those people with families pay the highest premiums. A recent article in the New York Times suggested that people rather pay the penalty rather than expensive insurance premiums. I get it but I do not think it a wise decision. We are not genetically perfect. It is a wise choice to have health insurance. I think it is the responsibility of congress to make sure that the insurance companies come up with a comprehensive plan to have fair and less burdensome premiums and co pays. I would invite the insurance companies to come before the congress to solve this issue. MY PLAN SIMILAR TO BERNIE SANDERS OF MEDICARE FOR ALL is a very reasonable idea. Fixed premiums and low co pays. Let us all get it straight United Health Care was paid 390 million dollars to unveil the Affordable care act;there is no reason why they cannot help fix it..And by the way the main health care plan for AARP is sponsored by united health care. As your responsible representative I will work hard to that accomplished. And of course I will be an advocate to see that social security and medicare stay in tact with a healthy future.

Let your vote make a difference, to YOU!
I think it is time a let your vote make a difference to you..I think your vote has to have a personal meaning.. Democrats and Republicans do not represent the people. If 55% of the electorate are independent nationally, just how republicans and democrats are there?
the time warner debate on October 24th,,
It is absolutely true mass media does not want to hear from independents. Once again I was told by the producers at time warner that I could not participate in the debate at the Woodstock playhouse..I was told that it is the policy of the company that I did not qualify according to their criteria of not polling at 10%..what is that suppose to mean? There are tens of thousands of independents in this district and yet they are citizens without a voice..actually about 130,000..that is a huge voting block..Ms. teachout is a democrat not an independent..people are not independent voting democratic or republican..they simply do not have any choice..without being redundant..it is not fair that Independents have a very difficult position..even though I am write in for third consecutive election cycle I should be an given equal voice..Write-in s are candidates..Franklin Roosevelt was even a write in once. Congress must establish a federal law giving all federal candidates an equal opportunity to petition the ballot . The election law in each state for a federal candidate vary. Be it as it may I sat quietly during the debate holding my sign citizens without a voice; I listened attentively to the questions and the responses of the democratic candidate and the republican candidate. I felt that the moderators did not ask the right questions focusing on narrow issues rather than focusing on the broader more important questions. furthermore, to be quite candid..it was a ho hum debate.

I can't seem to get a word in edgewise
The reality of running for political office as an independent is very difficult; the media does not give you a fair shake..This election cycle as in the previous ones is dominated by the banter of democrats and republicans. The presidential campaign is not dominated by the issues that concern the people rather it is dominated by personal attacks one candidate at the other. There is no independent candidate for president even though fifty-five percent of the electorate is independent, not affiliated with any political party..so how come there is no independent voice? The media simply ignores them. Personally, I think the media is afraid to talk about them because the networks might lose their sponsors. I think that mass media sells what their sponsors want you to hear. Now that does not sound very democratic to me; does it to you? With regard to my candidacy for the ..House of Representatives....the only media recognition I received was in the Hudson Valley news..the publisher did not even send me a copy..no radio interviews as of today..but I have been promised by a talk show host at WDST here in Woodstock..Let's see what happens..there are alot of issues I would like to discuss publicly. Next post I will tell you where I stand on the issues currently.

It's time for change..independents should support an independent
the time of allowing democrats or republicans to court you for your vote should be over but that decision has always been up to you the voter..how does this sound making America great again by working together for our future. Independents are a strong voting force..as a voter you have to have the conviction to vote independent..seriously, just ask yourself why am I not a Republican or a Democrat..the answer probably is that you do not agree with their policies..I am not promising you overnight change but I will promise that I will work tirelessly for you the constituents of the 19th Congressional district of New York not a political party's agenda. The establishment in Washington has just got to go..it is not an overnight accomplishment..it is simply time to oust democrats and republicans from office..too much influence from big MONEY AND NOT ENOUGH INFLUENCE FROM THE PEOPLE!

Politicans do not pick voters..the voters pick the politicans
President Obama speaking in Illinois on February 10th 2016 said politicans do not pick the voters, the voters pick the politicans. I think that statement should be true don t you ? For the second election cycle in a row, democrats have chosen an outsider to represent them on the ballot. This time the candidate is from Brooklyn. The candidate spends more time there than in this district..shouldn't that candidate be representing people from Brooklyn rather than the people of the 19th congressional district of new york? the democratic candidate chose the voters..the primary vote was hardly a mandate for her candidacy.the voters were not just paying enough attention..

Once again a Write-in
I tried to make the ballot but was unable to come up the three thousand five signatures that an independent is required to make the ballot..however I did manage to gather more signatures than the democrats or republicans are required to make the ballot which is only 1250. The rules favor democrats and republicans they petition before an independent and most importantly they are required to get about one-third as many signatures..I managed one newspaper article and no radio interviews to date..I am not giving up. Independents represent 55% of the electorate yet they are citizens without a voice. For the last three election cycles I have focused upon being an independent voice not aligned with any political party..I have not done well..but that is to be expected..lack of media attention et cetera..In the last election cycle in case you do not remember, democrats chose sean eldridge, a very wealthy entrepreneur,to represent them on the ballot..he had not resided in this district very long..democrats chose to ignore the fact that he was a carpetbagger..but he did have lots of cash..millions in fact . He tried to buy the election..Chris Gibson beat him badly. This election cycle the democrats have chosen zephyr teachout. I met ms. teachout during the democratic primary at a local debate I went over to her after and introduced myself as an independent running against her..she asked me why..we were interrupted and I never got the chance for my reply..Here it is..I do not believe that democrats and republicans represent the people..I do not believe that the electorate should vote for a representative that is required most of their time in washington to raise money for their respective parties and hardly legislate for the people who put them there..and thereby yielding to the overwhelming influence of lobbyists..I do not believe that it is fair that a candidate sneak into a district at the eleventh hour and run for a congressional seat. I ran into an old opponent in woodstock one day recently and asked him why he was not running for congress again..he replied that teachout seemed to be a juggernaut coming from a her strong showing against cuomo in 2014..that s too bad I thought..My belief is that the candidates message is important..winning is one thing..Letting your vote make difference toYOU is another. Change is important..but it has to come from you! It is my hope that this November 8th 2016 that everyone who really wants change uses their vote to write in Thom Jenkins at the bottom slot on the ballot under House of Representatives.

Now its my turn...
On june 28th democrats and republicans will have their individual closed primaries. Their opportunity to petition the ballot began in march and closed in april. those candidates needed 1250 signatures to participate according to state election law. I have attended two debates for the democrats and listened closely to republican debate on capitol tonight on cable. It is june and my turn has finally come. I have petitioning since my first day the 21st of june. I look forward to meeting more of you this election cycle. Over the past two election cycles I have personally spoken to more than 5000 people in the district. My magic number to make the ballot is a minimum of 3500 valid signatures; it is a lot of work and I assure you that it is not easy. I think the message is important.. Because i did not make the ballot in either of the two previous election cycles I ran as a write-in ;to no ones surprise I did not win but proudly received a number of votes each time. The behavior of the electorate has illustrated a pattern that has not changed our nation s government in Washington. Same old story..same old result. While I do not pretend to your knight in shining armor and the savior of our republic; I will declare that there must be a new chapter in American politics. The 2016 election cycle has been very exciting..whether or not you like a bernie sanders or a donald trump both have come out and said the electoral system is not fair it is corrupt and rigged. I do not believe that we can prove it but we can at least acknowledge it. It is no different than any other system. Unfortunately, we have tried to export it in Iraq and Afghanistan and we have been seeing the results with the sacrifices of our servicemen and women along with NATO forces. I love my country..the system is not working for our families. We need solutions not a political stalemate. We can justifiably point our collective fingers at the two party system that does not represent the people. It is time for a new chapter in American politics; it is time for the electorate to wake up and have a shift of consciousness...try something else..there is no reason not too! I have been quietly voicing that. position. Quite frankly I want everyone in the district to vote for me come this tuesday november 8th 2016. Tell washington enough is enough..the new chapter begins NOW! But first, I need your support on my petition. Please sign my petition between June 21st and july 26th to make sure that your voice is heard in washington ..for years to come..I believe in my message..I promise to be an outspoken advocate for you not a political party. SIGN THE PETITION and thank you to all those people who have already signed.

will my third attempt be a charm?
on the second of june 2016 I formally announced in the Woodstock Times that I would run for congress for the third time..it is not an easy task..the hardest part is making the ballot. In 2012 I managed to get 2887 signatures out of the 3500 needed to make the ballot for an independent; In 2014, I tried again ; I fell short 2156 signatures out of the required 3500. In both of those election cycles, I ran as a write-in. It is the 2016 election cycle..I am determined to make the ballot. The 19th congressional district of new york which I am running for has been held by chris gibson since 2012; he is not seeking a third term. I am the only candidate to have tried to repeatedly win the district. To refresh your memory , I am running on three principles: 1 government must have a conscience,2 the two party system (democrats and republicans) do NOT represent the people and 3 money should not buy representation. You can review my platform by simply going back through my blog which represents my thoughts on various issues to see where I stand. I will be updating you throughout . My petition period begins on june 21 and runs through july; my petition is due in Albany by early August. In order to sign my petition, you must be a registered voter living within the district and you must not have signed anyone elses petition; you can be a democrat . an independent .a republican ,a green that is the only benefit I have. The 19th Congressional District of New York consists of the counties of Ulster ,Greene, part of Dutchess down to and including Hyde Park, Columbia, Deleware,Sullivan, Schoharie,Otsego, and part of Broome, Rensselaer, and part of Montgomery. I look forward to representing YOU!

If at First You Don't Succeed...Try, Try, Again
Congress is the most powerful branch of government, and herein lies the problem. Year after year election cycle after election cycle, congress fails to enact legislation that our nation desperately needs. The two party system thinks more of their own individual party agendas rather than the needs of the nation. I ran as a write -in independent candidate in 2012 and 2014..I received little attention. I intent to get a lot of attention in 2016. I believe that there is a need for independents in Congress. As an independent I have no allegiance to either party. I have left my blog on from previous campaigns..I hope that when it comes time to sign my petition to get on the ballot that you will support me. Democrats and Republicans have an advantage over an independent, such as myself , because 1 the two major parties petition before me and secondly they need fewer signatures. I look forward to meeting more of the electorate, joining in debates and getting equal media attention. I hope that more independent minded candidates stand up to the establishment this election cycle..there are 434 seats to be won...independents must muster a strong fight to break the gridlock in Washington.

je suis charlie aussi,mais
we are all charlie in one way or another . The horror in Paris was appalling to us all. The interpretation was that it was an attack on free speech and the fundamentals of democracy. I believe that the underlying cause is inequality. World leaders are fumbling around "blindfolded"..this is simply nihilistic jihadists reacting to a cartoon of the prophet Mohammed. There is an ever growing gap between the rich and others.Imagine yourself without a proper education, without the ability to have a good job to provide for yourself and your loved ones, imagine living in poor conditions..imagine the only thing that you actually have is your faith. Throughout the world's history, religious beliefs have been a cause of war and mayhem;one faith thinking it is better than the other. We need more dialogue and less conflict. We need more understanding of one another; we certainly do not need force. The use of force only contributes to more force.I think you understand the theory for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. Inequality has drawn its line in the sand; if humankind does not change then it will implode on itself. We cannot eliminate terrorists because others will only take their place..we need to change..we need to reduce inequality through positive actions increased aide to education worldwide, we need to provide good jobs with living wages, we need to provide the means to provide and build proper housing, we need to have expanded dialogue to ease our differences. Most of all, we need to have respect for ourselves and for each other. If this does not begin to happen,we will continue to fan the fire and create more terrorism in the world. Unfortunately, we are stuck. Horrible crimes have been committed; those who committed them must be brought to justice. But what is the ultimate solution? When will this terror stop? Will it ever stop? There is a solution ; we must solve the problem of inequality. As Eleanor Roosevelt said decades ago, there can be no security with so much inequality!

Thank you
I would like to thank each and every person who voted for me. Every vote meant something to me; I really appreciate your support. I believe that if I had had the opportunity of more exposure in the media and had participated in the debates that I could have done substantially better to the point of giving the two parties a real run for their money; Unfortunately, despite the decisive victory for the Republican party, a very, very large number of people did NOT vote.Participation in our system of government is imperative. We need campaign reform in the worst way; we need a level playing field,,I am not the one who is afraid of competition. I welcome it! Reforming the way an independent petitions the ballot should the same as democrats and republicans not three times the work. We need to seriously look at money in politics and find a way to minimize its influence..publicly funding elections, equal access to the media through federal regulations. There has got to be a better way!By 2016, reform must be in place!
The Aftermath
My congratulations to Chris Gibson on winning the 19th Congressional District of New York; To Sean Eldridge, well done ! As for me, I am proud of the fact that I tried again; I firmly believe in the principles on which I ran. The Democrats took it on the chin; the question is going to be whether or not the Republican majority in both Houses will work with Mr.Obama. The mood of the voters demanded a change ; they certainly proved their power. Will gridlock in Washington continue? I believe that the Republicans have to prove to the American people that they will use their new found majority to pass positive legislation for which they were elected to do . Use it do not abuse it! If they allow the extreme positions within their party to dominate their agenda, they will not be able to convince the American people that they deserve a victory in the very near future of 2016.

Voting, Election Day 2014
Today, I voted my conscience. I believe that the undue influence of money in our political system has led us to government by the few. It is not right. YOU have to change it. Both the Democrats and the Republicans are guilty of the undue influence of money. These two parties are not representing the best interests of the American people; we need more dialogue and less partisan politics. If you have not voted already, please consider the PRINIPLES that I HAVE BEEN RUNNING ON OVER THE LAST TWO ELECTION CYCLES : Government must have a conscience, the two party system does not represent the people, if it did we would not have 40% of the electorate not affiliated with either of them, and probably most important is that money should not buy representation. So, if you believe in those principles , you should WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS as your choice for Representative in Congress.. Take a Stand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Election Day 2014
Once again, as I did in 2012, I am going to my polling place as a candidate for the House of Representatives. I hope that you will WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS as your choice for Representative in Congress.

Election Eve 2014
I am as excited as I was in 2012 on the eve of the General Election.. I believe that if you have had the opportunity to read my blog which has been a large part of my campaign over the last two election cycles; that you will come to the conclusion that I am an excellent choice to represent you in the House of Representatives.I believe in the three principles that I have discussed: government must have a conscience, the two major parties do not represent the people and MONEY should not buy representation. Based on pure observation and information provided to me, both the Republican incumbent and his democratic challenger have issues surrounding money..the incumbent has questionable campaign donors to "answer to", the democrat seems to be trying to purchase the seat.Either way you look at it; the influence of money is overwhelmingly evident. Sometimes, the electorate casts a blind eye to this element in politics; I firmly believe that this must stop. If you are, indeed, concerned about the influence of money in politics; then, I believe you must WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS as your choice for your REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS. Send a message to Washington that money does not buy representation! CHANGE IS POSSIBLE,BUT YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE IN IT! LET YOUR VOTE MAKE A DIFFERENCE! A REAL OPPORTUNITY IS WITHIN YOUR REACH! Write my name down on a piece of paper or memo your mobile device and bring it with you to your polling place! CITIZENS UNITED is one thing BUT IT IS YOUR VOTE THAT COUNTS AT THE BALLOT BOX!

Doing Your Part
Members in Congress are not playing their part. They are not doing their jobs. The American people deserve results. Congress is simply not doing its job. Partisan politics is destroying the very nature of our government. In order to change the end game, we must change the landscape. I am asking you to do your part, vote your conscience. The two major parties,Democrats as well as Republicans , do not represent the will of the people. Decision 2014 should NOT be decided by how many mailers you received, how many campaign advertisements you were forced to watch on television, the influence of the media, or the various polls and it should not be influenced by how much money one candidate has or doesn't have ; decision 2014 will be decided by you at the ballot box!
... . Money still cannot buy your vote. Please,go down the Congressional line which is referred to as REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS and WRITE-IN my name THOM JENKINS; write my name down on a piece of paper or put a memo on your cell phone and take it with you to your polling place. Our government is not working! Make a stand,Democrats, Republicans if you are dissatisfied with the choices presented to you by your party, vote for me. I hope that ALL 126,000 VOTERS NOT AFFILIATED WITH A POLITICAL PARTY will choose Thom Jenkins as their new REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS! Let your vote make a difference to YOU! Washington will begin to listen; it is up to YOU!

The Little Guy...That Would Be Us!
In 2012,when I first thought about running for Congress, one of my first tasks was to choose a symbol or emblem for my ballot petitions. I chose this little guy with a megaphone: I chose that particular one because, as an Independent and a member of the ever diminishing middle class, it symbolized the plight of the people. Shouting but never being heard. I am an educated hard working middle class American, and I struggle with same issues that you do. Paying monthly bills , helping to pay my share of educational expenses, you know the rest. It is not easy to keep up. American families deserve the best. We deserve every opportunity ; in order to do that we need to elevate education ,provide good paying jobs, we need to pass legislation to fix our decaying infrastructure that would provide millions of jobs, we need to protect planned parenthood and the mental and physical health of those who seek it(planned parenthood)...we need equal pay for women .There is no question that women are one of our greatest assets in the workplace. I sincerely hope that you will WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS on the Congressional line (representative in Congress)this November 4th. Let them hear you the only way that they know how to listen! I promise to work hard for YOU period.

Five Days to Go..
The countdown to Election Day is getting closer; just five more days. I hope you are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The Republicans are already threatening to shut down the government, assuming they take the Senate.A shutdown is a very dangerous game. The political extremism in both the Senate and the House of Representatives illustrates just how important it is to vote for an Independent. I will work both sides of the aisle in order to begin to disable this problem. It should be a concern for ALL! Remember, this November 4th, to go down the Congressional line (REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS) and WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS in the space provided; let your VOTE make a difference ! I will be working for you!

Don't Worry, We're Republicans!
During the 2012 campaign , I attended the third debate in Oneonta, New York. I did not participate; but I certainly listened. Upon taking my seat, an older couple addressed me and said,"don't worry we're Republicans." Some time has gone by since then, and I am worried. The Republicans managed to shut down the government wasting assets (to me a person is an asset) and money, billions of it; voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act over fifty times, failed to act on domestic legislation , failed to look at infrastructure legislation. Dysfunction, obstruction, call it whatever you would like; it simply has to stop; Republicans and Democrats are counting on you to do the same old thing; if you vote the same old way, nothing is going to change. Effective change begins with you! A change of attitude and a change in the way you vote. I sincerely believe that I can win this election. Republicans, Democrats, and those of you who are not affiliated with any party; join with me and say:" I am just plain sick and tired of this mess in Washington". Let your vote make a difference...WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS FOR CONGRESS! I have worn out my boots working and I will wear out my dress shoes working for you in the halls of Congress.

Water, water everywhere ..not a drop to Drink
Can you imagine if you did not have access to drinkable water? Did you know that there are 1.9 billion people who do not have potable water or access to sanitation; that is one-sixth of the world's population. There are better ways to use the money wasted in political campaigns. I believe that if the electorate begins to say NO; politicians will begin to listen. Vote them out! There is an alternative to Democrats and Republicans. This November 4th, go down the Congressional line and WRITE-In THOM JENKINS . Money should not buy representation!

Tons of Money
It is amazing that this year, according to some news analysts, there has been over 230 million dollars in negative campaign advertisements against Mr. Obama and the poor guy is not even running. Okay, he is not winning the popularity contest ; and things have not been going that great for the majority of us. It is not exactly his fault alone. Elections are won and lost on the issues; Republicans and Democrats have pretty clear views. Nevertheless, it is always party politics; it is just a vicious cycle.Probably the most significant issue is the amount of money that has been spent during this election cycle, nearly 3.4 billion dollars. It is really obscene! All that money being pumped into the media campaigns proves to me that one is just as bad as the other. This kind of money can certainly be used for better purposes. There has got to be a better way! Insert an Independent into Congress. this election cycle. This November 4th, WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS on the Congressional line; I promise to fight tooth and nail for campaign reform and to end the influence of money in OUR government.
Somebody Else is Listening Too and It is Not The Good Guys
Do you remember Jimmy Carter on a news program, some decades ago speaking about a military operation that was going to Iran to rescue the 52 hostages. Do you remember what happened? I do not have to remind you. The media sometimes talks too much about the wrong subjects. The media reports a man has breached the security at the White House; they put a map on national television. They talk about American tactics protecting our assets abroad; they talk about how to take out Apache helicopters and make suggestions on how to attack commercial aircraft. Do you think that the "enemy" is not listening? The big one, of course, is discussing the topic of no boots on the ground ; constantly broadcasting this issue sends a poor message to our allies, whether it is true or not or simply inevitable; it demoralizes our allies and enhances the enemy's motivation. Be careful what you broadcast ; we do not what your words to haunt us or harm us in any way!

The End in Afghanistan?
Today marked the end for both British and American military serviceman and women in Afghanistan .After thirteen years of chasing the Taliban all over that country ,trying to limit their influence over the populous and inserting democratic values, America finally withdraws leaving behind 240 million dollars worth of armaments to the Afghan military and a questionable government. Hopefully, the United States will not be faced with another Iraqi type situation. The former president was very corrupt (Mr. Karzi); he and his family stole millions. The lives of our brave servicemen and our brave N.A.T.O allies, as well as the heroic thousands who are permanently injured, leave an indelible picture in my mind as to the sacrifice they made. We cannot thank them enough. With a "war" raging against Islamic extremism in Syria, Iraq and other countries around the globe, and the insertion of recent events; we, as a nation, must reassess our foreign policy. We must acknowledge that the world is an ever changing and much more closely knit scene. We cannot simply choose our allies and isolate our enemies; we MUST address the shortcomings of the past and substitute real and lasting solutions so that we can end the inequality that divides the world as a whole. We must seek intelligent solutions to end extremism and the destruction of so many lives . Opportunity and education are essential elements in doing so. We can lead by example; but we must do the same for ourselves. If you WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS on the Congressional line, I promise to make every effort possible to do so!

The Me Nobody Knows
I am a quiet but thoughtful individual. Usually, quite clam..I believe that I am a compassionate person. I practice yoga with a mix of Pilates. I like to ride my bicycle. I like my jeep and I like my dump truck. I love my children. I enjoy the outdoors; I live in the woods and I am a good steward. I like to cut my own firewood and I clean my own chimney .I like to build cozy houses; I consider myself a good carpenter. I am a very good designer..I have an odd gift of being able to think three dimensionally. I like to solve problems; if it is not related to my trade, I like to look at things from both sides. There is nothing like putting the shoe on the other foot to help see the issue from both sides. I believe that I am very objective. I believe that most of our problems are very interrelated. And lastly, I believe that I am the best choice to represent you in the 19th Congressional District of New York. Chris Gibson said it the other night in the debate of October 22nd,"You know the House is going to remain Republican." Well, now is your opportunity to put a real Independent in office to represent YOU!This November 4th, VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE let your vote make a difference for you. Go down the Congressional line and WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS. Write my name down on a piece of paper and take it with you to your polling place! EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Guess who is going to west Africa to help contain Ebola?
I was clueless, but in a 20th October editorial in the New York Times I discovered that Cuba was sending a relatively large team of doctors and nurses to help contain the deadly virus; 460 to be exact. The World Health Organization has been training the response team. I think that's great! We should all read the article. One other thing; even though we have isolated Cuba from the international community for over a half century, American students attend medical school there with the backing of our government.I have a friend who just finished medical there; he thought it an amazing experience. The other thing, which I would think is extremely embarrassing to the Bush Administration of 2005, is that Cuba offered a rapid response team to aide the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Considering Bush's response to that national disaster, I consider his refusal more a shame. Ebola is an international security problem and concerns all nations..Hopefully, we will respond internationally as health care providers without borders or political divisions.
I just had to go to funny movie
I just had to go to a funny movie tonight; it is just too much..another school shooting. You know that is over 160 incidents of school shootings in our nation since 2000. What I really want to know is: when is the National Rifle Association going to stand up and help solve this national disease? The usually arguments against a national gun control law are of no value to the parents who have lost a child due to gun violence. The N.R.A. is not Congress; however, they have a lot to say because of their enormous influence..their campaign contributions to our "representatives" in the House of Representatives and the Senate. No one is asking to revoke our right to bear arms; the people who believe in some sort of gun control are just asking for common sense solutions. I am a loving parent and the violence today in that town near Seattle, Washington caused me to weep.

Slipping into the abyss of fear?
The incomprehensible violence in Canada over the last couple of days is tragic. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Those events show us how vulnerable we all are. I keep asking myself ,WHY? Can these episodes be stopped? How? When will they stop? What is their goal? Is there a political solution? We must find a core solution to the crisis of ISIS. We cannot wait years and years. My family coat of arms, perde sed caute the latin for fight with caution sometimes is applicable;but in this instance, we must fight with a very heavy hand using all of our available resources.

The Debate was not Complete without the Voice for the People
Tonight 's debate did not include everyone. As an Independent I did not participate. The organizer of the debate called me yesterday. The head of the news department said that I did not meet one of the criteria because I was not a candidate on the ballot. A Write-In is a candidate. The fact is that an Independent has to get almost three times the amount of signatures (3500) than a democrat or republican (1250) just illustrates how unfair the process of getting on the ballot is. An Independent has to petition later than democrats and republicans and basically gets ignored in the media. As an idealist, I thought that there was an outside chance to participate in the debate: there are 126,000 registered voters in this district alone who are not affiliated with any party. I think that those voters deserve an alternative . I believe that the media has an obligation to the public to present varying points of view. ( especially from an independent who has been trying so hard over the last two election cycles managing over 5000 signatures; 2887 in 2012/2156 in 2014). An Independent Write-in is a candidate and should be recognized more in the media; actually. I was referred to as the Write-in candidate from 2012 is back on an National Public Radio program in July. This November 4th WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS FOR CONGRESS an Independent who will represent You, not party politics! Let your vote make a difference; don't let money buy representation!

Not a Wasted Vote
I do not like to waste things ; as a matter of fact I enjoy recycling and reusing things as much as possible. I am sure of one thing I would never ask you to waste your vote. This election cycle please vote your conscience not the lesser of two evils. I believe that I am the best choice; unfortunately, I have little media attention. As I mentioned in a previous blog, I feel quarantined by the media. I tried to get into tomorrow night's Time Warner debate but did not succeed. Write my name down on a piece of paper and bring it with you to your polling place this November 4th and WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS at the bottom of the Congressional line column where it says write-in. In order to help you, I will post a sample ballot before the election. Each county in the District also has its own elections but the ballot will still be consistent with regard to state and federal candidates . The most important thing to do this November 4th is to vote. But most of all, remember A VOTE FOR ME IS A VOTE FOR YOU!

More than just the 19th Congressional District of New York...
We must end the dysfunction in Washington. I believe that one cannot disagree with the three principles that I have been running on for Congress over the last two election cycles. Those principles are: government must have a conscience, the two party system does not represent the people, and money should not buy representation. Both candidates have questionable issues around money, whether its donor contributions or access to personal wealth. Democrats and Republicans do not represent the people if they did forty percent of the electorate would not be affiliated with any party. Government is designed to serve the people: it has not done its job. As an independent, I will represent you not party politics. I will work hard on all the issues that concern us. Remember, on November 4th...WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS FOR CONGRESS. You will be glad that you did. Vote your conscience; LET YOUR VOTE MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Money can't buy you love, or can it?
Money is a very touchy subject in everyone's lives; but it is especially touchy when it comes to politics. Since one of the principles that I am running is that MONEY should not buy representation, I am very concerned about its influence in this particular congressional race. Obviously, I would like to be your choice in the 19th Congressional District of New York, because I believe that we should begin to re-establish a balance in Congress for the people and that I would work hard in your interest. In an article in The American Politics Journal, I ran across an editorial written by Leon Felkin that I thought was particularly appropriate . I will give you a direct quote from it. DEMOCRATS and WEALTH: Democrats believe in the concept of "equal distribution of wealth" even if they happened to hoarding a pile of it.They justify this by the fact that to do their job requires that they live a certain style that allows them to associate with the influential." Of course, this is actually meant to be funny, but is it? I do not think so. Why? Sometimes people flock to money like bees to honey. The fact that a candidate who has access to more money than almost any one of us can count; sometimes blinds their vision. I believe that democrats have been blinded by enormous wealth. Quite frankly, I question the motives of their candidate. I believe that if you agree with me that you will WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS on the congressional line, an independent who will work for you. I have worn out my boots working; I will wear out my shoes in the halls of Congress working for you. Join with me !

Some Things Are Just Our Own Fault
Every two years there is a General Election, and part of that election is for the House of Representatives , all 434 seats from the varied Congressional Districts across our great land. And almost always, you do the same old thing ; you vote republican or democrat. As Maurice Hinchey, the beloved Democrat, told me in 2012.."the rest are just out for themselves." I had told him that I was running on principle, three to be exact. I have already told you those. In my opinion , the voter ignores the fact that democrats and republicans do little to help the people and a lot to help themselves. Their pockets get lined with money from big donors; and the voice of the people gets crushed. I want to elected to Congress by you so that I can be your voice without big donors and without big money. I will not out source jobs; I will work hard to find solutions to bringing good paying jobs to our district. I will not vote to shut down the Federal government and risk the prestige of our nation aboard or the loss of work and salary to thousands , I will not be a party to our nation being held hostage by party politics. I will work for campaign reform. I will push for equal pay for women (my mother always made more than my dad.) I will always vote to fund planned parenthood: I am a firm believer in a woman s right to choose. I will always vote to fund the Center for Disease Control and Prevention; I will always fund our Public Health and Infrastructure. I believe in protecting the environment; especially, from the potential of pollution of our precious water supply by fracking. I fully support Social Security and Medicare. I believe in a living wage not a minimum one. I believe that higher paying jobs will stimulate the economy; higher revenue more spending power. I believe in universal health care. I will always vote to fund security for our embassies around the world. I live full time in the district; I am not a millionaire nor do I have access to huge amounts of money. I live modestly and I believe that I can be a great representative for the 19th Congressional District. Why? Because I am YOU! Let your vote make a difference this November 4th. Go down the Congressional line and WRITE-IN...THOM JENKINS..I promise to let your vote make THE DIFFERENCE IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES!

Congress and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are Overlooking One Thing
The missing link to exposure of the Ebola virus is incidental contact. This problem is enormously serious. It is necessary to establish national protocol at all entry points in the United States. The preparedness and ability to respond to this health crisis is imperative. I grew up in the era of polio; my mother was a registered nurse, she is probably rolling over in her grave at the amount of carelessness that is putting her "sisters and brothers" in harms way. The thoroughness of precaution is our most important ally in defeating this deadly virus.Contain the virus in west Africa by discontinuing commercial air travel ; have restricted air travel for American health care workers.

You Are Not Paying Attention!
The role of government in our daily lives is right there in front of you . There is a crisis; it is just not at your doorstep, yet. Prevent it; pay attention. It is so evident . Fifty to seventy percent mortality, breeches of so-called protocol, the very nature of the unpredictability of the Ebola virus , the unpreparedness of our national health care network, healthcare workers exposed without effective protection all these issues point to one thing. We do not have all the answers. As smart as we think we are, we have to be more than careful in our approach to a solution to this problem.

I am concerned about Ebola
As a person who wants to represent you in Congress,I am concerned about the health crisis posed by Ebola. In previous post, I mentioned that Ebola is unpredictable. That means that anything we think we know about Ebola may be changing. We must NOT overlook anything. We are not prepared to deal with a potentially deadly outbreak of this dreaded virus. We do not have enough equipment, trained personnel or a clear plan to deal with such a health crisis, let alone enough isolation units. The protocol to deal with this virus was not followed in Dallas, Texas. Now another nurse is infected. We must immediately have funds mandated to the various health organizations the Center For Disease Control, the National Institute of Health, and the World Health Organization to get Ebola under control. We must educate thousands of health care workers; we must have the best equipment to protect our health care workers and other public employees who may incidentally come into contact with potentially infected individuals. This could potentialy become a serious worldwide epidemic. We must pay attention. Critical thinking at the early stages is imperative; for example. everyone s immune system is different, therefore..an individual could have symptoms of this virus with a varied temperature other than what the CDC guideline is. Unpredictable is just that, unpredictable. Nothing can be overlooked. The health of the public is at risk. We cannot be casual about this deadly virus..Ebola has spread to three continents outside of west
Africa; as the United Nations mentioned today, this problem must be contained within sixty days or we risk 10,000 new cases a week. It could actually be much worst. WE are taking action in west Africa; we must not overlook our own nation!

Where do you stand ,Mr. Jenkins?
I left my blog on line from my 2012 campaign, and I have NOT varied much at all. To refresh...I believe that the most precious commodity we have is our ENVIRONMENT. WE must protect it at all costs ..we should be conscious of it all the time. I am a believer in climate change; there are ways that we as citizens can help reduce the effects of methane by simply composting our food waste. I am against FRACKING; it is an uncertain practice that can ultimately contaminate our water supply. Some measures have been put in place for municipalities not to allow fracking. ..a step in the right direction. I will always vote against fracking. I do not make a profit from it nor would I ever accept money from fracking entities. Since I basicly eat organic the best I can, I am in favor of labeling G.M.O food sources; I strongly support local farmers. I am in favor of returning the 8.1 billion dollars in food stamp cuts. If you ever had the need for food stamps, you would understand just how important they are in your monthly budget. There was a point in my life, after a serious illness that I needed food stamps. The fact is that food stamps do not totally supplement the food needs of a family; it does what it says ,supplements. Families need more and so does an individual; they spend more normally. So by cutting food stamps, the government cuts their spending power, especially if they are unfortunately making a minimum wage. Which brings me to my next stand. I firmly believe that the concept of a minimum wage is a poor one; it should be a living wage. Do you remember the concept of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Well, it is very difficult for a person not making good money to appreciate it. I am not an envious person, and I do respect a person who has done well; I do not know too many millionaires who are complaining. I am in favor of extending unemployment benefits for those who cannot find a job. While our economy seems to be doing well, most of us are not feeling the benefits, jobs are actually scarce. We need good paying jobs: we need to stimulate our economy, meaning yours and mine..The well off will always be well off. We are the ones who need a better revenue. The real problem is the type of job. So what kinds of jobs are here in our district now? How are you doing financially? What kind of jobs in the past made our district more viable? Now let s think about that on a national level..Education,.vocational training , technology, alternative energy,manufacturing..and much more. There is never a simple solution; I will work hard for you in solving this serious problem. We have allowed large corporations to take jobs away from our nation, and to add insult to injury these corporations get away with not paying billions of dollars in taxes..who picks that up you. End corporate loopholes. And with that we must add ending corporate contributions to political campaigns. If you want . change, you have to change the end game..change the landscape..put an Independent in Congress who is totally outside the bubble. One of our greatest barriers to change is INEQUALITY..That is a very big word ; one that has significant impact everywhere. In today s world, it can be anything from your right to vote, your right to ask for a better living wage.your right as a woman to DEMAND equal pay for equal work; I actually think that women are great problem solvers, I have worked with women who have come up with solutions to problems that a man would never think of! I am PRO-CHOICE; I believe that a woman s right to choose is her ultimate right to PRIVACY. It is unfortunate that while ROE v. WADE protected this right ,it was not made constitutional. I strongly believe in funding PLANNED PARENTHOOD. I am a believer in universal health care. I believe in elevating American education. With regards to foreign policy, I believe that we need to reaccess our foreign policy. We must do what we say we will; however, I believe we must rethink what that actually means if we are to remain ONE OF THE MORAL LEADERS OF THE FREE WORLD..
Quarantined by the Media
With just TWENTY-ONE days before the elections..I feel quarantined by the media. An NPR station said on the radio just the other day, that there would be a broadcasted debate and that the WRITE-IN candidate THOM JENKINS was NOT going to be participating. Well, I was NEVER INVITED.I have made an effort to contact those involved. By ignoring an Independent, even though I am a WRITE-IN , is ignoring the interests of over 126,000 people not affiliated with any political party. That is not only unfair but not a rational decision unless the object is to the stack the deck against the people not affiliated with any party and force them to vote republican or democratic or just not at all because there is no other candidate to represent them. It is not just simply because I believe in fairness ; it is because I believe that I am the best candidate to represent them and whoever else decides to vote for me whether or not they are a republican or a democrat . As an Independent who is a WRITE-IN this election cycle and was also in 2012, I think people should hear what I have to say in an open form, if you can call it that, because I believe that I can win the Congressional seat in the 19th Congressional District of New York. What is my reasoning ? A VOTE FOR ME IS A TRUE VOTE FOR YOU! My goal is to represent the people and work together with both parties to protect your rights, to protect our environment , to protect our nation, to ensure that there is equality for everyone.

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue..
According to Alf Evers, in his book Woodstock, History of an American Town, my mother s family arrived in this land on 24th of August 1682 on William Penn s ship The Welcome. I am no outsider. My ancestors were in the military fighting battles in the American Revolution and have fought in other battles through World War II. Others served in peace time. I did not serve in the military. I protested Viet Nam and Iraq; that does not mean that I am not a patriot. I respect all members of our armed services. At the time , I disagreed with government policy; dissent is a another form of patriotism..According to my father, some of his ancestors were farmers, one of those Thomas s in his line owned, the land that the Capitol is built on; it is called Jenkins Hill. His father, my paternal grandfather, had been a coal miner, the family coming originally from Wales. I am a proud American and it would be a priviledge to represent the 19th Congressional District of New York in Congress.

The Heart of the Matter
Do you know why you are a Republican or a Democrat? I know why I am an Independent; I am not affiliated with any political party. I believe in the three principles that I am running on: Government must have a conscience, the two party system(meaning the two major parties) does not represent the people, and MONEY should not buy representation. I believe that the electorate does not pay enough attention to its role in choosing its representative . I would like to believe that electorate appreciates the freedom that it has; I would like to believe that the electorate acknowledges its power. Voting is not some game you play..The person who is true to his/her conscience is the true voter, and the person who cares about the future of his/her country. I believe that party politics do not represent the will of the people. I believe that we must change..When Mr. Obama won the Presidential Election of 2008, the People were actually in tears, tears of joy for him personally and tears of hope for CHANGE. He inherited a mess and by 2010 things had shifted against him in Congress. The 2012 Election found Mr. Obama in the White House once more but Congress was still stacked against him. 2012 was the first time that I ran for Congress; I left my blog on from that campaign with a few interviews and some video. You see,I do not want you to think that I just came out of the woodwork. I think that I can win this election. CHANGE is what I am looking for, and I am looking for a change in your attitude. WRITE-IN THOM JENKINS..write my name down now on a piece of paper and stick it in your wallet or memo it on your cell phone. Let your vote make a DIFFERENCE!

Then, there is Iraq...
After two wars in Iraq , we have spent the lives of thousands of our brave men and women in the military, countless numbers of wounded and permanently disabled service members. The cost in blood and sweat far out weighs the trillion or more dollars that these conflicts have cost. Yet , here we are again not only engaging in air strikes in Syria but back in Iraq as well ...to aide a country whose American trained military could not defend itself. What is the cause? In my view, and just about everyone else who is able to analyze the problem, the Maliki government was unable to control sectarian violence. What violence is that? I could not believe the statement that Dick Cheney made in the media.."we did not know that there was sectarian violence in Iraq!" It is not possible, I thought. Didn t he do his homework? Didn t he read the position papers that are put in front of him every day? A mute point now; but nevertheless not to be overlooked. At any rate, Mr. Maliki has done great damage to his country and wasted the grave sacrifices that the many have made. Mr. Maliki did not include the Sunnis in his government; he dismissed the Sunni military leadership, including the rank and file. The result is that a majority have sided with ISIS. No wonder ISIS has become such a threat ...American trained Sunni military fighting with captured American weapons in both Iraq and in Syria against Syrian moderates and Iraqi nationals . who now seem to be overwhelmed. What a complicated mess! And of course, the corruption and all that American money, almost 104 billion dollars, that certainly did not help. The same parallels can be seen in Afghanistan. We cannot export our brand of democracy with its current flaws and expect perfection in other government, especially if there is so much cultural diversity. What is the solution? Perhaps, it is a partitioning process, better than the one after World War I , that gives regional identity , freedom, security and autonomy to the various people who live there. This problem is not just going to go away. A permanent solution must be forged with the satisfaction of all concerned and ISIS will have to be included. The Palestinian problem will have to addressed as well. The solutions to those issues will aide humanity.

Ebola..an International security problem
Ebola is one of the most deadly viruses known to mankind. Now and then, there is a small outbreak; much to our dismay, this time it is large. There have been 3900 deaths in west Africa, one death in the United States. Many more people are infected; we are not prepared. We,the international community, are trying. This disease is unpredictable; if we do not pay attention and take every caution, we could be facing a very serious problem. It has been mentioned in the media that if the disease is not contained it could effect 1.4 million people in west Africa alone by January 2015. That is a crisis..Ebola effects international travel and the international economy. Judging from what I have observed, we are not adequately protected. WE MUST EDUCATE THOUSANDS of health care workers and make sure that they are absolutely guaranteed of having the best training and equipment. The United States is sending 4000 soldiers to west Africa to help contain the epidemic . We must be vigilant. WE must stop this and prevent these types of issues from happening as best we can.Until then, ebola remains an international security problem as well as an economic one.
A National Security Problem
What has happened to our moral compass that we have allowed a terrorist organazition to become a threat to humanity and the global economy? The cause of the problem is,from my point of view, that two parties in Washington put bandaids on things, and the effect is that the infection never heals. Congress and the administration have allowed a pre-existing condition to get totally out of hand. By ignoring to aide Syrian moderates some months ago, turning our backs on the fact that over 200,000 people were being killed by the Assad regime, various groups have morphed creating ISIS, the Islamic State in Syria. This organization grows daily as if it were a cancer. ISIS strikes like the Nazi blitzkreig of World War II. They kill without mercy; they commit atrocity after atrocity. Crimes against women are many and varied; one can only imagine. Oddly enough, it took the beheadings of two Americans for the Administration to act. U.S. air strikes have been numerous, and yet have done minimal damage in derailing an ISIS advance. The city of Kobani, on the Syrian border with our NATO ally Turkey, is almost gone dispite 46 air strikes from U.S. planes. Another humanitarian catastrophe ....Saving, rescing the innocent citizens is not part of our mission! This type of action is weakening our effectiveness as a moral leader of the free world and strengthening the position of the enemy. ISIS is serious problem ; left unchecked, ISIS is a national security problem and moreover an international security dilemma. The answer lies in asking the right questions and getting to the root of the problem . The United States must lead by the best example possible!

The Key
What is the key to unlocking inequality in this country and everywhere else in the world? I think that it is access to a good education. You would think that the United States of America would be leading the way; but the fact is we are not. We lag behind the rest of the world in many areas of education. Education in this country could improve by leaps and bounds by taking a step backwards and teaching the standards of the English language. Children are graduating from high school who do not know how to communicate clearly. We are creating a permanent underclass of people who do not have the skills to get a job with a living wage. We must elevate the standards in our educational system so that everyone has a fair chance at a promising future and the ability to make the good choices. The states and the federal government must be held accountable.

No security with so much inequality
When I was a kid , I was in the Boy Scouts. There came a time when I had the honor of being in an escort for Eleanor Roosevelt. She came to the church that I was a member of to give a speech. I carried the American flag..I went to the wrong place..I was really upset . After her speech, there was a reception. As a member of the escort,I got to meet Mrs. Roosevelt, I was very apologetic for my mistake..I will never forget what she replied," Tommy, one day you will do a great service for your country." It wasn t clear to me what she meant at the time; but somehow, here I am trying to make a difference by running for Congress. I have been a life long Democrat before becoming an Independent. I believe that Independents are necessary in Congress, especially in the House of Representatives. The House has ignored the People. Legislation , so important to so many , has been ignored . Equal pay, gender inequality, the health issues surrounding women, elevating education, passing a minimum wage ( it should be labeled a living wage), unemployment benefits, reducing food stamp program are just some of these issues. What do they all have in common? I believe that one word can answer that question, and that word is INEQUALITY. Eleanor Roosevelt said decades ago,"there can be NO SECURITY WITH SO MUCH INEQUALITY." I believe her words have been amplified in today s world. Everywhere you look, this cause and effect relationship is evident. If you elect me to the House of Representatives, I will work patiently with both parties to end the causes of inequality.

Money should not buy representation
The title of this post is one of the principles that am running on this election cycle. There are three in total; the other two are : government must have a conscience and democrats and republicans do not represent the people..I will talk about those principles in another post. On the 11th of July of this year, I did an interview with Allison Dunne on NPR (local affiliate WAMC),.. some of you may have heard the discussion. Basicly, I said that money should be removed from politics. You probably think that s funny. It s not. I believe that elections should be publicly funded; I believe that large campaign contributions are a form of bribery and that is against the law. Publicly funded elections, meaning a fixed amount of money taken out the electorates federal income taxes would limit the amount of spending and give others, namely independents, a chance. It would help level the playing field. Presently, enormous amounts of money are spent on campaign mailings, political consultants, and campaign advertisements on television and more. To date, between the incumbent Chris Gibson and his democratic challenger Sean Eldridge, they have raised over 5.2 million dollars to pay for such activities..I have raised one hundred fifty dollars and I am trying to get some more money for signs. Can you imagine the impact if I win by spending less than one thousand dollars? When I called the League of Women Voters and spoke to one of their representatives, I asked :"how come I did not get invited to the debates..?" She replied that I was not serious because I was not raising piles of money and that I was a write-in . A write-in actually is a candidate whether he or she has money or not. The electorate just has to remember the person s name, I am an independent candidate running as a write-in. By having publicly funded elections, we create a fairer competition between candidates..Elected officals are public servants ; I do not see any reason why the F.C.C. could not further level the playing field by insisting that the television and cable networks run a fixed number of rotating public service announcements for federal candidates during every election cycle during the news hour at dinner time. They should be listed in the entertainment section of newspapers so that we can find out who we want to listen to. After all, we the people have to approve the message...at the ballot box!

the election is just a month away
One month from today, there will be another election. It is sometimes called the midterms. Even though this is not a presidential year; we cannot overlook the national importance of this election. It is not just about our congressional district (of course, there is the election for governor and other representatives as well as other local races.); it is about the future of our country. The most important thing you can do this November 4th is VOTE! Make voting a habit not a chore!! Try and remember one thing that a WRITE IN is a CANDIDATE and a vote for me is a vote for you! Over the next few weeks, I hope that you will continue to read my posts and come to the conclusion that I am an excellent alternative to the republican or the democrat. It is my hope that you will write -in THOM JENKINS for the 19th Congressional District of New York.

The importance of Politics and Policy in our lives...Cause and Effect?
Okay, cause and effect is something that we learn about in elementary school. So how can we relate this to politics and policy in our daily lives? It is quite obvious that almost everything we do is somehow related to the politics in Washington and the policies that are "passed " on to us or not.Congress is the most powerful branch of government...just think about the substance of the legislation that goes before Congress. Some of that legislation concerns the quality of the air we breathe, regulations pertaining to the food we eat, the water we drink, the energy we use, even the minimum amount of money some of us can earn, the list goes on to the right to chose , the right to chose the person you love , the right to hold on to our entitlements of social security and medicare that we have paid for all of our lives, the right to have affordable healthcare. The list goes on and on. Unfortunately , cause and effect relationships permiate our overall foreign policy and various security issues namely ISIS and ebola as well. The point is all these things matter.. shouldn t you be concerned?

Cause and Effect
When you have a serious problem, it is important to explore all the things that could cause it before you start to think about a solution. That way, you can solve the problem completely the first time around rather than addressing part of it and having the problem run on and on. This analysis can be useful in solving problems anywhere from domestic violence in one extreme to the creation of ISIS in the other extreme. It is important to remember cause and effect are elements in our lives all the time. In my next post , I will discuss the cause and effect importance of politics and policy on our everyday life.

Before I continue
As I wrote in earlier post, no excuses just the facts..I have got to get something out of the way. I first met Chris Gibson and his wife Mary Jo at a social event in Woodstock in the late spring or early summer of 2012.I think he might remember. Anyway, I saw him walk into the event and thought to myself..better go meet him.So, I walked up to him and introduced myself as an independent who was running in the same district, the newly formed 19th Congressional District of New York. We had a good conversation. We talked politics, of course, and I asked him how he thought he would fair with Mr. Romney as the Republican choice for the presidency.."that depends" he replied..Well, we chatted abit more..Since I am a very upfront person, I felt the need to tell him something very personal..I had had a domestic issue twenty years ago. I was married to a top fashion model ..I told him the facts. Domestic violence is more than a political issue for me; it was very personal. I made a mistake ;I was held accountable. I paid for my actions and have regretted what happened every day since then. I asked him right away if he was going to hold it against me. As I recall, he gave me kind of a neutral answer..."I am not going to bring it up". I do not remember if I had told him that I did a local television program on domestic violence..I am against domestic violence..when this incident occurred..my intention was to get my wife to go to mediation not to be in a bad situation. I think that if there are signs of domestic abuse; anything from continual abusive language to anything physical that counseling and mediation should be engaged at once. There is much more to domestic violence than one person, male or female, hurting the other. It hurts entire families. So, if I am ever asked about the subject of domestic violence, I will NOT avoid responding on the subject.
