Election 2022 - A Re-assessment

This is my sixth attempt as a write-in candidate for the House of Representatives in the 19th congressional district of NY. I am an independent - I believe that the republican party and the democratic party do not represent the people. 27 percent of all registered voters are republican and 29% are democrats -this is hardly the majority. The majority of the electorate is independent. The margin of error that the media is always talking about is the difference between the number of registered voters that are democrats and republicans. I believe that the government must have a conscience and that money should not buy representation. Unfortunately the reality is that our government does not have a conscience and in most cases money buys representation. The most disappointing fact is that the electorate ignores these simple facts. This election cycle of 2022 is similar to many election cycles of the past - filled with banter; one party against the other; hardly an atmosphere for finding solutions. The goal is power when it should be finding solutions to the issues at hand. Clearly there is a lot at stake. As an independent I am not obligated to adhere to either party line.

The issues in my view are quite clear. I would focus on a reality check - the economy is the main topic. Prices are too high. And people are finding it difficult to balance their own budgets. One way to help inflation that has been tossed around for years is tax the more affluent in our society, but how does that help the average citizen? Does it help pay for food, taxes, the mortgage or all the other expenses? No is the simple answer. There is no easy fix. Gas prices went thru the roof. We should be concerned about increasing our own energy independence, that’s a good idea.

Some democrats think that electric cars are a way of the future and perhaps they are, but not now. They are against traditional energy independence. Here is the puzzling dilemma, let’s look at a practical solution for electric cars. Batteries are very expensive. Do you think the price of electricity is going to go down when everyone is driving an electric car? The shortages of fuel, gas for our cars, fuel for the long winters, are politically driven. There is even a national shortage of diesel fuel. Common sense says the US has to be energy independent.

Codify Roe v. Wade. It was a decision that congress should have codified. They had 47 years. Women’s reproductive rights are a woman’s business. THEIR CHOICE. The government has no right to issue vaccine mandates. COVID vaccines are not safe and effective. There are harmful side effects and it does not  prevent COVID. Seeking the truth is not mis-information. The border without question is a major issue. Neither party has bothered to pass comprehensive immigration reform for decades. WE are faced today with a national border crisis. An open border is not the solution. The path to citizenship is thru legal channels ; illegal immigrants, if caught lose their right to become US citizens forever. Increasing border security and deport illegals. The US and Mexico will have to work together.law and order must be enforced period. The flood of illegal immigrants is burdening the US population. With regards to student loans, how can the US government forgive 100’s of millons of dollars in student loan debt when their parents cannot afford to put food on the table. If the government wants to chip in - pay interest on their student loans. I had to pay mine and so should they. Education is on the agenda, not sex issues, not sexual identity or anything like that. Your sexual preference is your choice, but do not put it in my face or my children’s or my grandchildren’s. In conclusion, the issues before the electorate are not easily solved. I believe that as an independent that I can help find common ground to help solve all these issues - so I ask you to write in - Independent Thom Jenkins for the 19th Congressional District of New York. Thank you for your attention.
